75 miles to Brevort
This morning I stopped and had a second breakfast before I left Manistique, so of course I passed open diners at least every 10 miles. I did stop in a coffee/tourist shop at Naubinway on the Lake coast and have a large high calorie chocolate brownie.
NOTE Except in diners everything in the USA even in this upmarket place comes on disposable plates with disposable cups and forks.
Just following route 2 towards St. Ignace and the Mackinac Straits. There is a wide shoulder to cycle on, so safe despite the traffic.
BUT did get my first puncture of the trip. changed the inner tube with no problems, thanks to the excellent tyre levers Keith had brought me from the bike shop on Bainbridge Island. (should have brought some for Mr. H. at home as well!) There was a large staple in the tyre.
Now I have been cycling across the north of the USA, I have passed countless fishermen, fishing resorts, and fishing lakes, but never seen any fish. Well all that has changed. I am in the land of smoked fish, today along the road were small smokeries, and small shops selling, smoked trout, smoked salmon and smoked whitefish. The whitefish look a bit like arbroath smokies.. Fish are only sold whole or in large pieces - I love fish - no problem!
Stopped at a forestry department camp site after 75 miles, tucked in woods between the road and the coast. I went for a swim but just had a sit in the water and a paddle, very strong waves. Looks like the sea but is fresh water.
After my excellent fish tea, I was invited over to my neighbours site for a glass of wine. Talked about family and travels THEN, They love their president he is keeping them safe. Then they formed a circle of hands to pray for me. THEN I made my way speedly back to my tent to finish reading the book on the dictatorship in North Korea which Denise lent me.!
As I say everyday is different. Pictures will follow to night. Cycles not allowed on the bridge so get the ferry to the Island, look around then get a ferry to Mackinac City. In a diner having my breakfast in St. Ignace at the moment.
