8 miles from cottonwood camp site back into Medora
Had a great trip into the Theodore Roosevelt National Park last night. Evening is the best time to go as the wildlife are out.
On the way up (and it was up) I passed wild horses. Then came upon a prarie dog town. These creatures live in 'towns' on the plain and have burrows- there were hundreds of them
They stand on their hind legs to watch the passers by.

A very large bison settled himself nearby: at first I thought it was a large rock.

Tonight I will camp In this replica old west town with its cafes bars grills and parks. Then tomorrow it is east. The campsite in the park was full but they made room for me under the pavillion which was shaded and just fine.
The rock formations here are amazing : sandstone and other minerals.

The adventure cycling route had to come down into the South of North Dakota because increased oil activity in the north made the narrow roads too busy for cyclists. The oil and coal from the area gets exported to places like Japan because the quality is high. I have passed trains carrying oil  and  gas west to the ports.
