52 miles to Ashby

The idea is to take things slower and enjoy the fact that for the next 120 miles or so I am on a dedicated, paved, old railway cycle route.  I had trouble finding a way onto the route, but once on found shade plus a cycle repair station.   HOWEVER.......

Minnesota  is the land of 10,000 lakes; it is very scenic, but with water come mosquitos. Each time I stop so do these little blighters.

I am now entering the kind of country where people do not wear Stetson hats and like a more varied diet. There is a greater variety of foods in the shops.
For the first time in ages I found a coffee shop and bakery in Fergus Falls, just at the right time for a homemade croissant. I waited my turn. The large family in front were letting their children have two bakery products each, so it took time. I sat down to eat and drink my coffee, secure in the knowledge that I could have as many free refills as I wanted, when my lip started to bleed. Blood everywhere, so I am mopping up with tissues, but am sure not going to abandon this feast. The family are giving me the evil eye!
NOTE TO GRANDSON:    I will only ever let you choose one bakery product. EXCEPT when you are 14 and I am 74 and we do a cycle tour together!

Sean Connery.
As soon as I open my mouth to say I am from Scotland, people want to know if I have met Sean Connery. He is very popular here.

Mavis from Fargo the 102 year old lady-
I forgot to say yesterday, but she would like to swap her president for our Queen. I said no.

Am staying tonight at a family camp site by a lake. I have been swimming. so will have to reapply sunscreen and then bug spray. This is becoming  quite a time consuming ritual. The small town of Ashby nearby  like a lot of this area seems to be being dug up for road repairs.

  1. Ha ha!! We always mention Sean Connery! When Barry told you at Prairie Roots Co-op that his daughter and her family were in Scotland at that moment, I never knew I would be talking to them last night about it. They had a great time there and want to go back. I thought about how I know its going to happen for Warren and I. I love Great Britain!
