Tuesday 6th June 68 miles
Up early to continue to cycle along the trail. Deer very tame. Birds of prey in the air. Chipmunks on the path. Plus a kind of brown squirrel not grey in the trees. Passed Lake Easton, but the surface tough, so at Cle Elum we left the trail, and made for the excellent bakers and coffee shop we had been told about. A cyclist asked us where we were heading we said Ellensburg, he said are you staying with Mel, small world yes we were!
We followed his advice on road route and the 25 miles took us along the side of the Yakima river. We watched a long goods train snaking its way round.
It was the first time Keith had stayed as a Warmshowers guest. We added on a bit of extra milage by making our way to their old house, instead of their new one which is right in the centre of town. But what a great welcome when we got their.Keith was soon chatting away with a beer in his hand, and we were given a good meal. We were also given a picnic lunch with home made muffins to take away with us. (I do not provide my guests with that)

Cle Elum and Ellensburg - memories of running in the Asia Pacific orienteering championships there in 1990!
