Friday 23rd June
Yesterday cycled 83 miles.
Began at the camp site and a gentle cycle in to Winthrop, a tourist town with cafes and cinnamon buns. Then it was a long detour south, losing a lot of height because the next pass was closed due to landslides. Went down into irrigated fruit growing area. Cherries are in season-there are stalls selling them and acres of orchards. A big packing station town with a cheaper than normal supermarket in Brewster. Then North again to Okanogan where I stayed the night. Camped at the fairgrounds, which is a bit like our Black Isle show ground. As did Owen. A not very good burger in what was meant to be the best place in town.
Today the 23rd have reached Tonasket, only about 32 miles, but was up late (8am). Had a dinner style breakfast in Omak and it is now very hot. Stopped in Riverside, a small place with an amazing Western outfitters store- the place to go for your boots and stetson hat. Am now sitting in a wholefood cooperative.I can see a couple of aged hippies in the garden with their relators (the mobility walking aids)!
